Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has opened up about the team's dismal performance in their 0-3 defeat to Brentford. All three goals were conceded in the second half, highlighting a torrid afternoon for the side under the management of Xabi Alonso.
Colwill acknowledged that after the first goal went in, Chelsea became too exposed in their drive to alter the game, ultimately playing into the hands of their opponents.
The Chelsea defender said:
It was tough. To be honest, we didn’t execute set pieces well. We tried to push forward and, perhaps, we left ourselves too open, making passes we shouldn’t have and trying to force things.
They caught us on the counter, which they do very well, and scored their second goal. The third goal really finished us off, and that was painful.
In the second half, we just weren’t good enough. We have a lot to work on during the international break.
Chelsea have now failed to win in their last three Premier League matches. After the international break, Alonso’s men will need to address the issues that were glaringly evident in their defeat to Brentford.
