Chelsea manager Habi Alonso spoke to Sky Sports following a painful 0-3 defeat against Brentford.
The Spaniard admitted that his side is currently struggling to maintain the required level throughout the match:
I’m disappointed with the second half and the result. It’s not enough to compete in the Premier League.
We couldn’t keep our level up for the full 90 minutes, so we were punished today.
According to Alonso, one of Chelsea's major issues remains inconsistency during matches:
Right now, we lack the stability to compete for the whole game. Good 45 minutes isn’t enough. We need to maintain our level for the entire match and understand that every detail matters, as any action can be decisive.
Alonso also acknowledged that after conceding the first goal, his team lost control of the game:
After their first goal, there was still a lot of time left, but we lost control a bit. Once we conceded the second, the situation became very difficult.
He specifically commented on Chelsea’s ongoing problems with set pieces, with set piece coach Austin McPhee visibly frustrated during the match.
Habi added:
We all share the responsibility and feel the same disappointment. Set pieces are extremely important. We’re conceding from them, so we need to assess everything, analyse it, and make corrections.
Alonso also refused to blame the defeat on the absence of Joao Pedro:
There’s no need to make excuses. We must look at each other and understand that we need to work and get better, as there’s still a long road ahead. We need to reassess a lot.
We got into the right positions, but we lacked precision in the final phase. That’s why we didn’t score.
