Former Chelsea manager Jody Morris has cast doubt on defender Maxence Lacroix's ability to seamlessly fit into the club's tactical setup.
Morris raised a concern about how Lacroix will adapt to Chelsea's formation, especially given his success at Crystal Palace playing in a three-man defence.
“My only slight concern about Lacroix is the system he will be playing in at Chelsea. He was outstanding at Crystal Palace as part of a back three, calm on the ball, comfortable moving into midfield, and good at reading the game,” said Morris.
“However, I haven't seen him perform at that same level for the French national team in a back four, and that honestly worries me a little. It's not a red flag, more something to keep an eye on,” he added.
“A back three provides you with support on both flanks, whereas in a four, you’re more vulnerable one-on-one, and your positional play needs to be impeccable,” Morris noted.
“If he can adapt quickly, he’s a serious talent, but until we see that consistently at the top level in a back four at Chelsea, I’d be cautious about calling him the finished article just yet,” he concluded.
