Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has expressed admiration for the signing of 35-year-old English striker Danny Welbeck.
Earlier this month, the Blues made a surprising move to secure the experienced striker from Brighton for around £7 million, signing him to a two-year deal. Last season, Welbeck netted 13 goals during his time with the Seagulls.
Friendship dating back to Watford and Brighton
Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck previously played together at both Watford and Brighton. The Brazilian remarked:
Danny is a very important person for me. When I first arrived in England and didn’t speak the language, he was always there, helping me adapt and grow. We are reuniting for the third time now, and I’m sure he will be an excellent leader for our team.
The signing of the Englishman was also backed by midfielder Moises Caicedo, who shared the pitch with Welbeck at the Amex, highlighting the striker's mental qualities and experience.
Welbeck, who has had spells at Manchester United and Arsenal, admitted to feeling pride at making the switch to Chelsea.
The addition of the seasoned veteran forms part of Chelsea's ambitious summer campaign, which has exceeded £300 million, aiming to propel the club back into the upper echelons of the Premier League.
