Manchester United are keeping a close eye on 16-year-old forward Meziyan Meslub from Lens as they seek to bolster their squad with emerging talents across Europe.
According to TEAMtalk, the scouting department at Old Trafford has identified the Portuguese star as a key target for their watchlist. Interest has reportedly spiked amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Jay Jay Gabriel, whom CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox are working hard to keep at the club.
This season, Meslub made his Champions League debut, providing an assist in a thrilling 3-2 victory against Slavia Prague. UEFA statistics show that in just 29 minutes on the pitch, he managed two shots, an impressive 87% pass accuracy, and reached a top speed of 29.57 km/h.
The forward’s rapid ascent began last season in Ligue 1, where he scored a last-minute winner against Nantes just five seconds after coming on as a substitute.
At just 16 years and 306 days, Meslub became the third youngest player to represent a French club in the Champions League, trailing only Ryan Cherki and Warren Zaïre-Emery.
His remarkable progress hasn't gone unnoticed on the international stage either. L'Équipe reports that the young prodigy has already received a call-up to the Portugal U21 national team, despite having previously featured for the U16 and U17 squads.
