Chris Sutton predicted a heavy defeat of Manchester United with a score of 0-5 to Leeds United. The analyst also chastised Lisandro Martinez for criticising the hierarchy after his own on-field mistakes.

Football analyst Chris Sutton has stirred quite the conversation with his audacious prediction ahead of the Sunday derby clash between Leeds United and Manchester United at Elland Road.

With Leeds making a powerful start to the 2026/27 campaign, the home side goes into this encounter as the strong favourites. In contrast, Michael Carrick's side is currently struggling, having claimed just two wins in their first nine matches across all competitions. This poor run of form has made Carrick the prime candidate for the first managerial sacking of the season in the Premier League.

The pressure on Manchester United escalated further with a public spat following their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid (0-2). Defender Lisandro Martinez publicly critiqued the transfer decisions made by technical director Jason Wilcox. Sutton deemed such comments inappropriate, especially after Martinez's own blunder that cost the team victory in their recent draw against Tottenham (1-1).

I find Lisandro Martinez’s outburst regarding Manchester United’s transfer policy quite bizarre, particularly coming from someone who made a costly error that deprived the team of a win against Tottenham. One would think he would keep his head down after allowing Dominic Solanke to equalise with a poor clearance.

If I were in Jason Wilcox's shoes, I would have been aiming to bring in a robust left-footed centre-back by January, someone capable of dealing with aerial threats. Even if some United fans agree with Martinez's sentiments, there’s a right time and place for everything. This was clearly a misjudgment. However, it highlights the disarray currently plaguing the club.

Discussing the upcoming trip to Elland Road, Sutton expressed doubt about Carrick's ability to rally his troops for this fierce rivalry. The analyst admitted his frustration about supporting the club and has predicted a specific scoreline:

In their despair, they might make a last-ditch effort to regroup for a win, but I really don’t see it happening. I am convinced Leeds United will convincingly dismantle their rivals. Almost every week this season, I have defended Manchester United, but that's enough. I must have been mad to believe in them for so long. My prediction is a 5-0 win for Leeds United.
