Alexander Isak has reflected on Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Brentford in the Premier League, where the Swedish striker scored the decisive goal in the 70th minute, completing the Reds' comeback after they fell behind in the first half.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Isak expressed his satisfaction with the result, especially given the challenges of an away fixture.
“I’m really pleased with the win. It's a tough ground and a difficult opponent, especially when playing away. We knew the match could get tough, so it was important to get the result,” the forward noted.
When discussing his goal, Isak highlighted the need for concentration and patience to await the right moment. He remarked that opportunities were scarce, making it essential to keep calm for the crucial moment.
“I waited for my moment. I tried to control the ball and finish the attack as quickly as possible. Thankfully, I managed to score,” the striker explained.
Isak also pointed out how the game dynamics shifted following the sending off of a Brentford player. With their opponents down to ten men, the hosts became more compact at the back, providing Liverpool with less space to exploit.
According to the Swede, it is vital to play patiently in such situations and avoid rushing decisions. He acknowledged that players from the bench urged the team to control the tempo and see the game through to victory.
Despite the positive outcome, Isak believes there is still a considerable way to go for Liverpool to reach their full potential.
“I think we still have a lot to improve on. We're making progress and picking up points, which is important. Coming here and taking three points is a great result,” the forward stated.
Liverpool trailed at half-time but equalised through Viktor Munoz after the break, with Isak sealing the win. Brentford ended the match with nine men following two red cards.
