Fulham defender Yoakim Andersen has expressed his disbelief at being dropped from the starting XI. In the last two Premier League matches, Alvaro Arbeloa has left the 30-year-old Dane on the bench.
Andersen missed the opening match of the season due to suspension, but made his return to the starting side against Sunderland and Crystal Palace. However, he found himself watching from the sidelines during the match against Liverpool and managed to get just ten minutes on the pitch in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
Andersen stated:
This has come as a bit of a surprise to me. Last season, I captained the team in many games.
We lost our first three matches, with the first one being the one I missed due to suspension. After that, the coach decided to make some changes.
But honestly, I have nothing to say about it. There’s nothing I can do; I feel I played very well. Sometimes a coach wants to try a different option — it happens.
Last season, the Dane was a key player for Fulham, racking up 35 appearances and logging over 3,000 minutes on the pitch, often leading the team out with the captain’s armband.
Now, Andersen will head off to join the Danish national team, who have four Nations League matches coming up against Norway, Portugal, and twice against Wales.
