Manchester United could find themselves bidding farewell to Michael Carrick as early as next month. The team has managed just two wins in their opening six matches of the season, with particular dissatisfaction stemming from recent defeats to Manchester City and Brighton.
Football expert Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Carrick's job is on the line should results fail to improve in the coming weeks.
If this continues, if they were to lose away to Fulham this weekend... there’s a three-week international break coming up. If I were Manchester United, I’d be eyeing up who I could potentially lure in. If it goes on for another four or five games, they might decide to make a change. But as it stands, he’s definitely holding onto his position.
Agbonlahor also offered a scathing review of the performances from Diogo Dalot, Leni Yoro, Aiden Heven, and Noussair Mazraoui against Brighton.
Defensively, they were so weak, so open. It was one of the worst defensive displays I've seen in years. They looked as though they had given up. There was just no desire. Joshua Zirkzee looked like he was disappointed not to have left United and seemed indifferent. I look at them and think: where’s your heart? Where’s your desire? It’s far too easy for teams to score against United, and I can’t understand their style of play.
In response to the swirling speculation regarding his future following the cup exit, Carrick remained unfazed.
I don’t feel any pressure. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Overall, it doesn’t trouble me. I get what’s happening outside and how the world works, but it doesn’t concern me.
