Liverpool are ready to sell Wataru Endo in the January transfer window, with the club already identifying a potential replacement.
The 33-year-old Japanese midfielder hasn’t seen any action this Premier League season and didn’t make the squad for the Champions League.
Reports suggest that the Merseysiders want to cash in on the player ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season. Liverpool appear keen to capitalise on the last opportunity to receive a fee for Endo, especially as he’s fallen down the pecking order. Manager Andoni Iraola seems unimpressed with the midfielder, making a move away in a few months the best outcome for all parties involved.
Iraola has already commented on Endo’s situation, stating that it will be tough for him to earn regular playing time.
Wataru missed a fair bit of pre-season. I think he’s still not at peak fitness, but he’s training very well. The problem is that I have lots of players in his position. He is competing with many players, as we also give minutes to Trey, Ryan, Alexis, and Dom—players I’m choosing right now.
A candidate for replacement
Liverpool have set their sights on 22-year-old Fiorentina midfielder Sher Ndur as a potential replacement. The Italian has solid experience, having played for Benfica, PSG, and Besiktas.
However, Liverpool will face stiff competition for Ndur. The situation surrounding him is also being closely monitored by Aston Villa, Newcastle, Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Hull City.
