Liverpool have set their sights on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. Manager Andoni Iraola sees him as the ideal replacement for Curtis Jones, who is close to a move to Inter Milan.
The Merseyside club are keen to accelerate negotiations. Wharton's arrival would free up Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in attack. England's Declan Rice recently praised Wharton, describing him as an ‘outstanding’ midfielder.
However, the transfer may hit a stumbling block. Crystal Palace are reluctant to let go of their star player and have set an asking price of around £78 million, a figure that could rise to £100 million due to his long-term potential.
The player himself is also in no rush. According to talkSPORT, Wharton has indicated that he expects to remain at Crystal Palace for the coming season, despite the serious interest from top clubs.
