Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reiterated that Martin Subimendi remains a crucial component of his team, countering transfer rumours that have surfaced recently. Ahead of the Gunners' first game of the season against Coventry City, Arteta was resolute in his denial of any sale involving the Spanish midfielder.
“No, he is definitely an important player. Undoubtedly, he was one of Arsenal's best performers last season. Without him, we wouldn’t have found ourselves in the position we ended up in over the last few weeks,” said Arteta.
In his debut season, Subimendi started 34 Premier League matches, scoring five goals, although his playing time decreased towards the end of the campaign.
Recent transfer chatter has arisen due to Real Madrid reviving their interest in Subimendi. According to GOAL, the Spanish giants are seriously weighing up a move for the midfielder.
