Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak personally negotiated Sergio Aguero's transfer from Atletico during a restaurant dinner in 2011.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak played a pivotal role in orchestrating Sergio Aguero's transfer back in 2011. According to Mundo Deportivo, the initial agreement for the transfer was sketched out on a tablecloth during a dinner meeting with Atletico Madrid's CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin.

Initially, Real Madrid had offered €45 million for the forward and had secured the player's agreement. However, Atletico scuppered that deal to prevent fan outrage, ultimately selling the Argentine to Manchester City for €36 million plus €4 million in bonuses. The report notes that this transfer is not affected by the recent guilty verdict concerning the club's financial breaches from 2009 to 2018.

During his decade at the Etihad, Aguero made 390 appearances, netted 260 goals, and provided 55 assists, winning five Premier League titles and a total of 15 trophies before moving to Barcelona in 2021.
