Liverpool and Barcelona have agreed on a loan for Ronald Araujo with an option to buy; the defender is heading to England.

Liverpool have reached a full agreement with Barcelona regarding the loan transfer of 27-year-old Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo for the upcoming season.

According to the reputable Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the deal includes an option for Liverpool to make the transfer permanent at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Swift negotiations and departure to England

The transfer developed at lightning speed, gaining full approval from Barcelona's sporting director Deco. Representatives of the Uruguayan player quickly flew to Liverpool, where they spent just a few hours finalising the terms of the personal contract.

This move has certainly become one of the summer transfer window's most surprising and headline-grabbing events. As it stands, the only thing left for both clubs is to release official statements.

Araujo is expected to bid farewell to his teammates at the Catalan club before they depart for Italy for a pre-season tournament against Udinese and Nottingham Forest. Following that, he will head to England for a medical and to sign documents at Anfield.
