Liverpool are on the verge of formally announcing a new contract for Rio Ngumoah. Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that both parties have reached a principle agreement, with the 18-year-old winger set to commit his future to Anfield.
Ngumoah recently turned 18 on August 29, granting him the opportunity to sign a professional contract. The new deal promises to significantly enhance his existing terms, reflecting his growing importance within the squad.
Despite his youth, Ngumoah has already made 35 appearances for Liverpool. In August 2025, he scored a late winner in one match, becoming the youngest goalscorer in the club's history.
Arsenal had shown interest in the winger, contemplating a move to bring Ngumoah back to London. However, the player appears content at Liverpool and has no intentions of leaving.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke confirmed that both sides are keen to wrap up negotiations:
Liverpool clearly want to keep Ngumoah. From what I understand, the player is happy at the club and is expected to feature regularly in the starting XI this season.
Young players like him will always attract attention from other clubs, but Liverpool are confident that his long-term future lies at Anfield. Both sides are optimistic and expect to come to an agreement soon.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has also expressed high regard for Ngumoah. Following the winger's call-up to the England national team, Iraola said he fully deserved the opportunity from Thomas Tuchel:
