English side Ipswich Town has reached a principle agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of 27-year-old Argentine central midfielder Esequiel Palacios. Sources close to BritBall.Net have reported the news.
The Premier League club will pay a fixed fee of €22.5 million for the World Cup champion, with the overall cost of the deal, including bonuses for individual and team achievements, potentially rising to €27.5 million.
On Wednesday, Palacios is set to fly to England to undergo a thorough medical examination and finalise the terms of his contract.
The Argentine leaves Bayer after six and a half years, having joined the German club from River Plate in January 2020. His current deal with the pharma giants was set to run until June 2030. River Plate will also benefit from the deal, retaining 10% of any profit from a resale above €17 million, as well as 3.75% under FIFA's solidarity payment mechanism.
