Manchester City made an official offer to Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of 17-year-old winger Mathis Albert this summer, according to German media.
Albert, who holds both US and German citizenship, is regarded as one of the hottest young prospects being tracked by elite European clubs. As reported by Bild, several top teams were willing to pay up to €15 million (around $16.8 million) for the talented player.
Interest in the winger also came from clubs in the English Premier League. However, sources from GOAL indicated that Borussia Dortmund planned to reject all loan offers for the player during the summer.
Albert has represented the US national team, earning four caps and scoring one goal. His contract with the German club runs until June 2027.
According to Transfermarkt, the current market value of the 17-year-old is estimated at €5 million. Therefore, the amounts some European giants were reportedly ready to offer could have tripled his market valuation. There have been no reports of a completed transfer or agreed deal, however.
