Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation surrounding Liverpool's attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz. The London club's manager, Xabi Alonso, is well aware of the 23-year-old German's capabilities from their time together at Bayer, where they clinched the Bundesliga title in 2024.
Wirtz made the move to Liverpool in the summer of 2025 for a record £116 million for a German player. To date, he has made 55 appearances for the Merseysiders across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists. The midfielder's current contract runs until the summer of 2030.
Journalist Mark Bruce, in his article for The Daily Briefing on CaughtOffside, has pointed out that Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the player:
If Wirtz and Liverpool decide to part ways in the near future, Bayern would likely be first in line. However, one shouldn’t overlook Real Madrid or Barcelona. One source also listed Chelsea among those observing the situation regarding the 23-year-old, but I personally have doubts about him staying in the Premier League, as this option doesn’t suit either him or Liverpool.
Despite the interest from Chelsea and other European giants, Liverpool have no intention of letting their star midfielder go. According to TEAMtalk, the club's hierarchy and head coach, Andoni Iraola, have long-term plans for Wirtz. They intend to show patience, provide him with ample playing time, and firmly believe that working with the German national team under Jurgen Klopp will help the playmaker regain his confidence and reach his previous level.
