Everton have rejected a late bid from Chelsea of £65 million for midfielder James Garner in the final hours of the summer transfer window, according to reports from talkSPORT.
Chelsea were eyeing Garner as a potential reinforcement in midfield following Enzo Fernandez's recent switch to Manchester City for a staggering £125 million.
The London club was prepared to fork out £65 million for the 25-year-old Englishman, but Everton were reluctant to consider selling him at such a late stage in the transfer window.
Sources suggest that the Merseysiders were unwilling to part ways with Garner due to the limited time available to find a suitable replacement.
Garner is considered an integral player for David Moyes's side, thanks to his versatility. He is capable of operating in central midfield as well as filling in at right-back.
As it stands, Garner remains with Everton, where he is contracted until 2030.
