Manchester United will need to find a new striker in the upcoming January transfer window, with Benjamin Sesko facing a lengthy layoff that could extend until early 2027.
The Slovenian international has been battling significant calf issues since the spring, with a recent recurrence during a League Cup clash against Brighton proving particularly concerning.
According to reports from The Sun, the forward is certain to miss the remainder of the year. The club remains hopeful of his return by February but acknowledges the pressing need for new signings.
Manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that the club is actively seeking reinforcements.
“We’re not entirely sure how this will materialise at this stage. However, without a doubt, there are opportunities available because the transfer window is open. We will definitely be looking into this and will strive to strengthen the squad, whatever that might entail,” he stated.
This summer, Joshua Zirkzee was looking to leave the club, but a replacement couldn't be found at that time. Now, the Red Devils are thoroughly scouring the market for attacking talent.
One of their main targets is Dinamo Zagreb forward Dion Bellingham, who has made quite a name for himself. After an impressive loan spell at Rapid, where he netted 19 goals in 49 appearances, he returned to Zagreb and has since scored 53 times in just 63 matches. This season alone, he has bagged 15 goals in 15 fixtures.
Interest in Bellingham isn’t limited to United, as both Newcastle and AC Milan have also shown keen interest. The Croatian side turned down a €20 million offer from Real Betis this summer, and it’s now expected that his valuation could exceed €30 million.
Another potential candidate being assessed is Igor Matanovic from Freiburg, who has managed to score six goals in 10 appearances this season.
