Chelsea have ramped up negotiations for the signing of 18-year-old versatile defender Honest Ahanor from Atalanta and the Italy national team. Atalanta's sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has confirmed that the club is open to discussions and willing to seriously consider official offers for the young talent before the summer transfer window closes.
The Blues have already established productive ties with the Italian club, having recently secured the transfer of Marco Palastra for €57 million. Now, Chelsea are keen on Ahanor, who is valued at around €50 million. Brighton have also shown interest in the player, but it is Chelsea who have progressed the furthest in talks with the player's camp.
Giuntoli commented on the situation surrounding the rising star:
There is substantive interest in some of our players. We haven’t received any official offers yet, including for Ahanor. But if they do come in, we will certainly consider them. The club will act very carefully and thoughtfully.
Last season, Ahanor made an impressive breakthrough in Serie A, featuring in 22 matches while showcasing his adaptability as a left-back, left centre-back, and midfielder. Additionally, after obtaining citizenship on his 18th birthday, he officially debuted for the senior Italy national team following nine appearances in the Champions League.
