Following Manchester United's heavy defeat to Como (1-4) in the Champions League, captain Bruno Fernandes delivered another candid interview, stating that the club can no longer be compared to its illustrious history.
Everyone at the club needs to understand that things have changed; we are no longer living in the past, and we must look to the future,
the Manchester United captain told Sky Italia.
We need to create something new in the present. There is too much focus on what was achieved in the past, but that doesn't define who we are now. Both the club and the players need to realise this. Unfortunately for us - especially for the players - those who come here expect to win trophies, to get results, and reach the highest levels, but sadly, over the past few years, this has proven to be a very challenging task. That’s the situation.
Fernandes also reflected on the team's current plight:
This is a very difficult time for us; we are not picking up points or getting the results we desire. Most importantly, we are not showing the level of performance we expect from ourselves. Unfortunately, this is one of those periods we can't seem to get out of. We need to do something to change this situation and start winning - it's critical.
It is worth mentioning that previously, the Portuguese midfielder expressed disappointment after being substituted in the second half and indirectly questioned the tactical decisions of interim manager Michael Carrick during the match against the Italian side.
