15-Second Brief
Ashley Cole has hailed Arsenal as the leading team in the Premier League at the beginning of the new season. The former defender noted their strengthened squad and believes last season's championship has given Mikel Arteta's men an extra dash of confidence.

Ashley Cole believes Arsenal are the top team in the Premier League as the 2026/27 season kicks off. He claims that last year's championship victory should instil a greater confidence in Mikel Arteta's squad as they aim to defend their title.

The English football legend shared his thoughts during an appearance on Sky Sports:

I think it's too early to say who will be the champions. But Arsenal look stronger than anyone else considering how they've strengthened and the confidence they've gained from their fantastic performances last season.

But who knows? It is still too soon to draw conclusions.

Arsenal commenced their title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry. Prior to that, Arteta's team had also triumphed 3-0 against Manchester City in the Community Shield.

Cole also praised Xabi Alonso's start at Chelsea, who secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham in their opening match:

Any managerial role is challenging. It really matters how you get a response from your players. He’s already received his first response – an away win against a fierce rival, so I think they’ll be very pleased.

I hope as the season progresses, the team can reach an even higher level.
