Adam Worton has once again been sidelined from the England squad as Thomas Tuchel continues to overlook the 22-year-old Crystal Palace midfielder. This exclusion comes after Worton also failed to make the cut for the World Cup, raising questions about his international prospects.
The situation remains unchanged despite several injuries to other players, with Tuchel opting to call up James Garner and Morgan Gibbs-White instead of Worton.
This summer, the midfielder was linked with potential moves to Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham, yet no formal offers were received by Palace. Worton himself seemed content to remain at Selhurst Park, focusing on his development within the club.
The London side showed no urgency to cash in on one of their key players. It is believed that Palace would only be open to discussing a transfer if a bid were to reach around £80-100 million.
Staying for another season makes sense both for his career and for the club; following their triumph in the Conference League, Crystal Palace has secured a spot in European competition, allowing Worton to continue playing at a high level without needing to switch clubs.
However, the current selection for the national team adds another layer to his decision-making for the future, especially looking towards 2027. Tuchel is currently opting for Jude Bellingham, Elliot Anderson, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Alex Scott in midfield, with Garner and Gibbs-White called up due to injuries.
While this latest omission doesn’t spell the end of Worton's international dreams, if the situation does not change, the prospect of a transfer to another club may become a more pressing issue for the talented midfielder next summer.
