Wayne Rooney has urged Michael Carrick to shake things up in the Manchester United squad following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Hull City. The legendary forward believes it’s time for Luke Shaw and Andre Santos to be sidelined.
As United prepare to host Ipswich Town in their next match, Rooney is keen to see Patrick Dorgu take up the left-back position:
I would replace Luke Shaw and bring Dorgu in at left-back to play a bit more aggressively. I don't think we can rely on Shaw for every match, so at home against a newly-promoted side, I’d start Dorgu on the left side of defence.
In the game against Hull, I would have also kept Dorgu on the pitch and moved him into defence. I’d play Mateus Cunha on the left and have Marcus Rashford up front.
When asked about changes in midfield, Rooney replied:
Probably Mainu. I’d bring Mainu on instead of Santos.
Rooney didn’t rule out the prospect of Diogo Dalot stepping in for Noussair Mazraoui either:
The situation with the right-backs is quite similar. Any of them could play, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Dalot feature. Mazraoui, like Shaw, struggled to keep up with opponents and stop their crosses.
New United signing Carlos Baleba will miss the match against Ipswich as he continues his recovery from an ankle ligament injury.
