Patrick Vieira admitted that he could have moved from Arsenal to Manchester United and personally met with Alex Ferguson. The manager discussed plans to pair him with Roy Keane, Beckham, Giggs, and Scholes, but Vieira ultimately declined.

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has revealed that during his time in London, he had the opportunity to join Manchester United. The Frenchman even had a personal meeting with Sir Alex Ferguson, who detailed the position he envisioned for the midfielder in his team.

Vieira also hinted at previous interests from Real Madrid.

The former France international recounted:

I had several opportunities to join Real Madrid, and I also could have ended up at Manchester United.

I met with Sir Alex Ferguson. I have a lot of respect for him, and I simply couldn't turn down such a meeting, as he was a significant figure in the Premier League.

Ferguson presented Vieira with an impressive vision for United's squad:

We talked about his vision for Manchester United and the team he wanted to build.

He wanted to pair me with Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs on the left, David Beckham on the right, and Paul Scholes just behind Ruud van Nistelrooy. It would have been quite a team.

Despite Ferguson's enticing offer, Vieira decided to remain at Arsenal, believing that the Gunners were on the cusp of something special under Arsene Wenger:

But I couldn't leave Arsenal. I was too happy there, and we were moving towards creating something really special at the club.

When you're playing well, other teams show interest, and you have to make a decision. I chose to stay at Arsenal because I felt the love from the club, my teammates, and the fans.

I had everything there to grow as a player and achieve what I wanted.

Vieira enjoyed a nine-year spell at Arsenal, winning the Premier League three times and the FA Cup four times. He captained the famous Wenger team that went through the 2003/04 season unbeaten.

In 2005, the Frenchman eventually left London to continue his career in Italy. In 2022, Vieira was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.
