Newcastle United are showing serious interest in Lyon's midfielder Tyler Morton, with the English club looking to bring the 23-year-old back to the Premier League during the January transfer window.
The Magpies are not alone in their pursuit, as six other Premier League clubs — Liverpool, Everton, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and Brighton — are also monitoring the progress of the young Englishman.
Morton made the switch to France from Liverpool for a fee of £10 million, which could rise to £15 million with add-ons. Liverpool retained a 20% sell-on clause, ensuring they benefit should Morton move again.
This season, the midfielder has featured in all five Ligue 1 matches, clocking up 366 minutes on the pitch. He has established himself as a key player for Lyon since his arrival.
Despite Newcastle's interest, Lyon are firm in their refusal to sell the midfielder mid-season. Morton is under contract until 2030, leaving the French club in no hurry to engage in negotiations.
The interest from Newcastle aligns with head coach Matthias Jaissle's ongoing overhaul of the midfield. Morton's prior experience in English football and his youthful age make him an attractive long-term target for the Tyneside club.
