RB Leipzig defender David Raum is eyeing a switch to Manchester United as the January transfer window approaches. The club has been monitoring the 28-year-old for quite a while and is now ready to pursue his signing following failed efforts to strengthen their left-back position during the summer.
Initially, United’s top target was Lewis Hall, but the defender has since signed a new contract with Newcastle lasting until 2031. In recent weeks, they have also been linked with Alejandro Balde, who could potentially leave Barcelona.
Raum remains a serious candidate for the role. According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United plans to make a move for the player when the winter transfer window opens on 1 January. The German international is reportedly open to considering a transfer to Old Trafford.
The situation is particularly intriguing given that Raum's contract with RB Leipzig runs until the summer of 2027. If the two parties do not reach an agreement on an extension, January will represent Leipzig's last chance to secure a transfer fee for the defender.
Raum joined RB Leipzig from Hoffenheim and has since made 149 appearances across all competitions. Ahead of the 2025/26 season, he was named captain of the German national team.
However, United are not the only club interested in his services. Juventus are also monitoring the situation, but the Manchester side is willing to compete with the Turin giants for his signature.
Left-back isn’t the only position Michael Carrick might look to strengthen this January. United are assessing options in the centre of defence amidst the lengthy absence of Matthijs de Ligt and uncertainty surrounding Harry Maguire's future.
Furthermore, a new striker could be necessary if Joshua Zirkzee is sold. In the summer, United attempted to offload the Dutchman but were unable to find a suitable deal for a permanent transfer.
