Newcastle United have begun active negotiations for the transfer of central midfielder Luka Suchic from Spanish side Real Sociedad. According to Dennis Bayer, a reporter from the German branch of Sky Sport, representatives of the English club are closely monitoring the performances of the 24-year-old Croatian footballer.
The driving force behind this potential move is Newcastle's head coach, Matthias Jaissle. The German manager is well aware of Suchic's strong attributes from their time together at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg and remains a big admirer of the midfielder's talent, seeing him as the ideal candidate to bolster the team's midfield.
Suchic, who represents the Croatian national team, is expected to become a top priority on Newcastle's transfer shortlist for the summer window of 2027. His current contract with Real Sociedad includes a release clause of around €60 million. The English club's hierarchy will need to weigh up the feasibility of activating that clause or seek to negotiate more flexible financial terms with the Spanish outfit.
