Barcelona have set their sights on Tottenham's right-back Pedro Porro, but their plans hinge on offloading Jules Kounde first.
According to Diario AS, the Catalan hierarchy hold the 27-year-old Spanish international in high regard, and Porro is open to a return to his homeland.
The feasibility of the transfer is complicated by Porro's recent contract situation; he only signed a five-year deal with Tottenham in June and a month later celebrated World Cup glory with Spain.
To make any move for Porro possible, Barcelona must sell Kounde, who is valued at around €50 million. The club hopes to use the funds from this potential transfer to bolster their right defensive flank.
Among the interested parties are Chelsea and Bayern Munich, although Chelsea's interest is reportedly still at a preliminary stage.
Kounde was a target for Chelsea in the summer of 2022 when they tried to buy him from Sevilla, but the Frenchman chose the Barcelona option instead.
Since joining the Catalan club, Kounde has lifted seven trophies, including three league titles, scored 11 goals, and made 22 assists, setting a record for the most appearances by a French player for Barcelona.
However, the necessity for Chelsea to acquire Kounde raises some eyebrows.
Xabi Alonso already has Reece James, Malo Gusto, and Marco Palese at his disposal, and this season, the manager has effectively utilised Pedro Neto in the right-back position.
Neto showcased his abilities in the latest Premier League match against Bournemouth, contributing with an assist for Joao Pedro in a 5-1 win.
Poor's start to the season at Tottenham has been marred by injury problems, limiting him to just four appearances, with only two starts against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
He has been with Tottenham since 2023, when his move from Sporting became permanent after an initial loan spell.
During his time in North London, he has made 156 appearances, netted 13 goals, and provided 26 assists, playing a part in Tottenham winning the Europa League in the 2024/25 season.
So far, Barcelona have not made any formal moves regarding signing Porro. The possibility of negotiations will directly depend on their success in finding a buyer for Kounde.
