Liverpool defender Milos Kerkhez is full of anticipation as the new English Premier League season approaches.
The Reds will kick off their campaign with an away match against Newcastle United, set for 23rd August at St James' Park.
Kerkhez is confident that the team is well-prepared for this challenge following a rigorous pre-season.
"We are more than ready. Everyone is excited for the season to kick off next week," Kerkhez stated.
The player also reflected on his physical state following a recent friendly match.
"I feel ready. It was my first time playing 90 minutes against Como. I felt a bit of fatigue in my legs around the 70-minute mark, but it was great to have completed the full match today," he noted.
Kerkhez highlighted the significance of winning the last pre-season fixture.
"We needed to win to build that positive momentum ahead of next week. We managed a clean sheet, which is great for defenders, and yes, we're happy," the Hungarian added.
However, he acknowledged that there’s room for improvement within the team.
"We still have a bit of work to do to be more solid defensively. We need more help from the wingers, but that will come next week," the defender said.
Kerkhez explained the importance of gaining match experience for the entire squad.
"A lot of the lads needed to play 90 minutes. We need to be prepared for the intensity of the Premier League next week. You know how it is, especially away at Newcastle, so it was great that many of the guys got a full match," the player shared.
He reminisced about his previous experience playing at St James' Park.
"I remember what it was like last season. There’s a huge difference playing against Newcastle with Bournemouth compared to Liverpool, so I really can’t wait. I think my teammates are just as eager," Kerkhez confessed.
In conclusion, Kerkhez set out the team’s primary goal for the upcoming match.
"It’s a fantastic atmosphere there, so we need to go in and grab all three points in our first game," the Liverpool defender summed up.
