Manchester City continues to hold an interest in Enzo Fernandez, but Chelsea are still without assurances that the midfielder will stay.
To date, the London club has not received any official offers for the Argentine.
Sky Sports News journalist James Savundra provided insights into the situation:
Chelsea are fully aware of the interest in Fernandez, with Manchester City tracking him throughout the transfer window. However, the Blues have yet to receive a single proposal for the midfielder this summer.
Around two weeks ago, Chelsea set a self-imposed deadline of Friday at 17:00 for clubs to present offers up to £120 million, which was their valuation at the time.
Manchester City ignored this deadline but have maintained their interest in the player.
That said, the deadline no longer seems particularly firm. Last week, I spoke with Xabi Alonso, who could not give any guarantees about Fernandez's future. He merely stated that the player is working hard in preparation for the upcoming match against Fulham.
It remains to be seen what negotiations Chelsea might be willing to entertain with Manchester City, especially given the evident tensions between the clubs.
Another question is how much City are actually prepared to pay for a player who appears to be Enzo Maresca's main target this transfer window. City should have funds available after several high-profile sales this summer, and it’s clear just how highly Maresca rates Enzo Fernandez.
