15-Second Brief
Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel stated that despite Jordan Henderson's brace, he will never be considered one of Chelsea's own due to his legendary status at Liverpool, but urged fans to support him on The Obi One.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has shared an unexpected and candid view on Jordan Henderson's contributions to the club. His remarks come after a standout performance from the 36-year-old, whose double helped the Blues claim a decisive 5-1 victory against Bournemouth.

Speaking on The Obi One podcast, the Nigerian veteran assessed the signing of Henderson, who was brought to Chelsea by manager Xabi Alonso in the summer of 2026:

I said we needed experience, but not a 36-year-old player! However, listen: all you need to do is go onto the pitch and prove the doubters wrong.

And last weekend, he did exactly that. Let’s see how long he can maintain this level. But I believe the most important thing for Jordan Henderson in this squad is to be a respected voice in the changing room and at the training ground.

When things are going poorly, when players aren’t playing for the club’s honour, badge, and understanding what it means to play in the Premier League and fight for the fans, he should be the one to call that out.

I have nothing against Henderson personally. He played for Liverpool, he’s a Liverpool legend, and I don’t think he’ll ever become one of us. But he’s here now. He’s doing his job well and playing as he should. Currently, he’s performing excellently for Chelsea, and we must support him.

The experienced midfielder's impactful game against Bournemouth has reinforced Xabi Alonso’s transfer decision, bolstering the team’s midfield with a leader of champion calibre.
