Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has lambasted the club for selling Kai Havertz to Arsenal. The German scored against his old team, aiding the Gunners to an impressive 2-1 comeback win.
Havertz made the switch from Chelsea to Arsenal for £65 million in the summer of 2023. Cole believes the London club should never have allowed a player of his calibre to join a direct rival.
In an interview with Premier League Productions, Cole stated:
If Kai Havertz is in your club, you see him every day, week in, week out. Managers and head coaches come and go, but what about sporting directors? Just look at how much money the club has spent on strikers after letting him go.
This is simply not good enough, and it needs to stop. We saw it with Kevin De Bruyne, and now it’s happening with Kai Havertz.
You wouldn’t see this at Manchester United under Alex Ferguson or at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger. When did you last hear of them letting a player go who then became a world-class talent at one of their rivals?
