Everton are weighing up a potential signing of free agent Jamie Vardy following the failed transfer of Folarin Balogun. According to The Sun, the club finds itself in a tight spot and may turn to the experienced English striker.
David Moyes is in a difficult position, left with only Tierney Barry as his recognised central forward after selling Beto to Fiorentina and the collapse of the Balogun deal from Monaco. The Toffees also submitted a loan bid for Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United, only to be turned down.
The situation surrounding Balogun turned into a transfer saga of sorts. Everton reportedly had a deal in place for around £40 million, but complications during the medical examination force the terms to be revisited. In the end, the American striker opted against the move.
With this setback, Everton now have the opportunity to dip into the free-agent market. The 39-year-old Jamie Vardy is available on a free transfer after leaving Cremonese. The forward is keen to continue his career in the UK to stay close to his family.
Despite his age, Vardy remains capable of making an impact at a high level. In his final season in Serie A, he netted seven goals and previously carved a legendary status at Leicester, famously helping them clinch the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.
According to The Sun, Everton are currently exploring the possibility of making a proposal to Vardy. For Moyes, this could serve as an emergency solution to the attacking depth problems following a chaotic transfer window.
Interestingly, Vardy was also linked with Wrexham in recent days, but the striker has rejected their offer and continues to consider his options.
