Manchester City midfielder Elliot Anderson set a Premier League record by completing 146 passes in a 1-0 win against Coventry City. This is the highest total for English midfielders since the 2003/04 season.

Elliot Anderson has etched his name into Premier League history during Manchester City's narrow victory over Coventry City (1-0) at the Etihad Stadium.

In Saturday's match, the English midfielder completed a staggering 146 successful passes. According to statistics provider Opta, this marks a new record for English midfielders in the Premier League since the detailed record-keeping began in the 2003/04 season.

Anderson made the switch to the City squad from Nottingham Forest this summer for a hefty £116 million. He has quickly become a pivotal figure in the new midfield setup under Enzo Maresca.

This record number of passes was made possible by Manchester City's overwhelming dominance, as they enjoyed 77.6% possession against Coventry.

A goal from Erling Haaland in the first half was enough to secure all three points, but the hosts had to dig deep in the latter stages to protect their slender lead as their opponents fought for an equaliser.
