According to Italian publication La Repubblica, Antonio Conte has laid out his requirements for Manchester United. The Italian has personally put himself forward for the managerial role.
On Wednesday evening, he reaffirmed his ambitions but issued strict conditions. Conte is seeking complete control over United's transfer decisions, intending to personally select new signings and mould the squad to fit his vision.
The experienced manager wants to work with his trusted lieutenants. However, it remains unclear whether this includes just his coaching staff or if he is also angling for a new sporting director.
Subsequently, it emerged that Conte has fallen down the list of candidates to succeed Michael Carrick. The Times reports that Manchester United is cautious about the Italian’s fiery temperament and lofty salary demands.
His requests regarding squad building may also be deemed unacceptable, potentially undermining the role of sporting director Jason Wilcox, who enjoys the full confidence of Jim Ratcliffe.
