Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has stepped up to accept responsibility for his side's lackluster display in the opening half of their cup match against Leeds, ultimately winning the game in a remarkable 6-3 thriller.
The Spanish boss made nine changes to the starting lineup from their previous fixture against Arsenal.
By halftime, Chelsea found themselves trailing 1-0, and early in the second half, they were even further behind at 2-0. However, Alonso's introduction of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Reece James, and Pedro Neto at the break proved pivotal. A penalty awarded in the 53rd minute marked a turning point in favour of the hosts.

Yes, we made a lot of changes in the starting lineup. It was a risk. Everything went wrong initially, which meant we had to adapt quickly. I fully take responsibility for the first half. The fans were brilliant, their atmosphere propelled the players forward.
I love that the guys were ready to come on even before the match started. They knew they wouldn't be starting, but were eager to make an impact. When you put together a team of players who have hardly played together, it's always tough to perform at that level against such an aggressive and intense team like Leeds.
The chemistry between Rogers and Palmer is crucial for us. They have a fantastic understanding on the pitch. They genuinely enjoy assisting each other, and that brings enormous benefits to the entire team.
