Sean Dyche has emerged as a front-runner for the managerial position at Crystal Palace should the club's hierarchy decide to part ways with Pierre Bows.
According to exclusive information from The Telegraph, the former Burnley boss is being considered in light of the team's poor start to the Premier League season and their recent 0-2 defeat to Newcastle.
Dyche has been out of work since February after leaving Nottingham Forest. One key question for interested clubs remains whether he is ready to return to coaching after taking a break from the game.
Bows under serious pressure
The loss to Newcastle has ramped up the pressure on Pierre Bows. The Frenchman has been at the helm of Crystal Palace for just four months, yet during that time the team has managed only two Premier League victories.
Despite a slight improvement following a devastating 0-5 loss to rivals Brighton, results remain a concern. On Thursday, the Londoners also dropped points in a Europa League match against Besiktas.
Prior to this, The Telegraph reported that Bows had two crucial meetings about his future at Selhurst Park. The latest defeat has only added to the woes surrounding the manager.
Why Crystal Palace is considering Dyche
Sean Dyche is well-known for his experience in Premier League survival battles. During his decade at Burnley, he led the team to the top flight twice and managed to keep them there for six consecutive seasons until he left the club in 2022.
He later helped Everton avoid relegation before taking the reins at Nottingham Forest for around four months, but he has been out of a job since February 2023 and has occasionally appeared in the media.
However, it remains unclear if the 55-year-old is prepared to return to management in the near future.
Other potential candidates for Palace
Thomas Frank, who previously worked at Brentford, and Vitor Pereira are also in the mix as potential replacements. Frank was on the club's shortlist last summer before they settled on Bows.
Pereira may attract interest from clubs fighting relegation, having previously assisted Wolverhampton and Nottingham Forest with their Premier League survival challenges.
Following their defeat to Newcastle, Crystal Palace now sits just one point above the relegation zone. The Londoners will face tough fixtures against Tottenham and Liverpool before the next international break.
