Getafe has officially proposed a deal to Jadon Sancho, aiming to secure his services until the season concludes. The Telegraph reports that the La Liga outfit is willing to offer the 26-year-old winger €400,000 over the duration of the contract, significantly lower than the approximately £250,000 per week he was earning at Manchester United.
Despite the financial terms, Sancho is considering a move to Spain. The prospect of playing in La Liga and the opportunity to reignite his career after a challenging spell at United is appealing to the talented winger.
Sancho looking to meet Getafe's manager
Before making a final decision, Sancho wishes to sit down for a chat with Getafe's head coach, Jose Bordalas. The manager has expressed some dissatisfaction with the club’s activities in the transfer market and the squad's overall depth.
What happened after leaving Manchester United?
Sancho was brought to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a hefty £73 million. However, he struggled to meet expectations during his time at the club, which ultimately saw him going out on loan to Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.
Last season, he made 39 appearances for the Birmingham-based side, including a substitute outing in the Europa League final. With his contract at United now expired, he finds himself free to explore new options.
La Liga may scrutinise the potential deal
Getafe's offer for Sancho is expected to draw additional attention from La Liga due to the dramatic gap between his previous salary and the terms proposed. The league has previously looked into the contracts of players, such as former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, who was set to join Getafe as a free agent on a relatively low wage.
Currently, Getafe is sitting near the lower end of the La Liga table, with the team in 15th place at the time of writing.
As of now, Sancho has not made a final decision regarding his future. According to The Telegraph, he continues to train independently and has been sharing videos of his workouts on social media. Recently, he visited lower-league club Flixton, but the team clarified that he was not undergoing a trial with them.
