Aston Villa may not go ahead with the purchase of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea due to his slow start and limited game time in the new season.

Aston Villa are contemplating putting Alejandro Garnacho's transfer on ice, as his form continues to waver.

Last summer, Garnacho made a surprising switch to Aston Villa from Chelsea on loan, with an option to buy set at £43 million, contingent upon the number of matches played. This move came after a rocky first season at Stamford Bridge following his departure from Manchester United.

Manager Unai Emery has attempted to revitalise the winger's career, but the start to the 2026/27 campaign has been less than stellar, with Garnacho only clocking up 60 minutes across five substitute appearances. During the recent international break, the forward undertook a mini pre-season training stint to regain his fitness, and Emery praised him for a solid 20-minute performance in a 3-1 win against Viking.

However, according to Football Insider, Aston Villa's hierarchy believe the ball is now in the player's court. The club are ready to keep Garnacho on the sidelines if his performances do not pick up, even potentially avoiding activating the obligation to buy clause.
