Newcastle United's sporting director, Ross Wilson, confirmed that the club will persist in selling key players as they adopt a model of consistent player trading. This approach is essential for adhering to financial regulations set by the Premier League and UEFA.
In the past year, the Magpies have already seen the departures of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes. Last summer, the club managed to rake in around £231 million from player sales while bringing in eight new signings, resulting in net spending of approximately £31.5 million.
Wilson emphasised that while there is no immediate necessity to part with players, future transfers are certainly on the cards:
"If you want to be a successful club in the Premier League, you'll need to trade players. Without that, your chances of success are minimal, especially given our current revenue levels. If you don't sell players, you’ll just remain stagnant. These rules apply to everyone. We have no choice; we must operate this way."
The club is currently in talks to secure a new contract for Lewis Hall, which would enable them to command a higher price should they decide to sell in the future.
Wilson also noted that some of the young players signed this summer may leave Newcastle United before 2030 if their transfer value increases significantly.
