Nottingham Forest have taken a significant step towards a major overhaul of their home stadium. The redevelopment plan for City Ground, estimated to cost around £790 million, has received approval from the Rushcliffe planning committee with several conditions attached.
Capacity set to rise to 45,000
The first phase of the project involves demolishing the current Peter Taylor Stand and constructing a new one, while also increasing the Trent End capacity by filling in the stadium's corners.
Upon completion of this phase, City Ground is expected to see its capacity grow from approximately 31,000 to 45,000 spectators.
Future plans to add another 7,500 seats
The club has also received preliminary approval for the redevelopment of the Brian Clough Stand. Its expansion could potentially add another 7,500 seats, bringing the total capacity of the stadium to around 52,500. Further detailing will be required for this aspect of the project.
Thus, the project will unfold in two phases: initially, City Ground aims to reach the 45,000-seat mark, followed by the Brian Clough Stand redevelopment that will push capacity beyond 52,000.
This marks the first major renovation of the historic Forest stadium since the 1990s.
