Manchester United's head coach Michael Carrick remains confident that his side can compete at the highest level, despite the club's relatively frugal approach to the transfer market this summer.
"I definitely feel we can compete," said the United boss.
"I think the issue lies in getting the right dynamic, the right balance, and gathering the correct group together to improve the others. Whether you need experienced players or a few younger ones is key. While I understand the amount of money can seem significant, it doesn't always have to be the answer," Carrick explained.
This summer, Manchester United ranked only tenth in spending among Premier League clubs, shelling out £163 million for three new midfielders.
For context, rivals Manchester City topped the spending chart, splashing out an astonishing £472 million.
London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham followed City closely, spending £351 million and £334 million respectively.
