Manchester United's hierarchy has made the firm decision to part ways with defender Lisandro Martinez in the summer of 2027.
According to MailSport, a significant overhaul of the club's defensive line at the end of the season will mark the end of the Argentine's career at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old's five years in England have been plagued by relentless injury issues.
Notably, he has not completed a single season without serious injuries, and his absence for the match against Como has now escalated the total number of matches missed in all competitions to 90. In his time in the Premier League, he has managed to feature in just 118 matches.
However, it is not just persistent injury woes that are prompting the club to consider his sale. The bosses at INEOS are reportedly disappointed by Martinez's recent sharp criticisms directed at sporting director Jason Wilcox regarding the club’s transfer policy.
United plan to trigger a 12-month contract extension, allowing them to put the defender on the transfer list and recoup part of the £48.3 million spent on him. The player himself is eyeing a move to Atletico Madrid, where his close friend Cristian Romero currently plays.
