The winger for Manchester United, Amad Diallo, marked a significant milestone in his career as he played his 100th match for the club. The 24-year-old Ivorian's landmark appearance came against Leeds United at Elland Road, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Amad played the full 90 minutes and was directly involved in a crucial attack that led to a goal by Bryan Mbeumo. To commemorate this occasion, the club presented him with a special commemorative shirt.
Diallo joined Manchester United from Atalanta in 2021 and has quickly become a fan favourite. Over the years, he has provided plenty of memorable moments, including standout victories against Liverpool and Manchester City in 2024, with his goal against the Merseysiders in the FA Cup quarter-finals helping secure a prestigious trophy for his team.
Club record and unique achievement
Now that he's reached 100 matches, Amad has etched his name into the history of the Red Devils:
- He is the 230th player in the history of Manchester United's first team to reach the 100-game milestone.
- Amad becomes one of just four African players to hit this landmark for the club, joining compatriot Eric Bailly, South African Quinton Fortune, and Cameroonian Andre Onana.
- With 16 goals for the club, Diallo holds the record as the most prolific African player in Manchester United's history.
Match structure and player's ambitions
The majority of Diallo's appearances for United have come in the Premier League (72 matches), with another 16 in European competitions, starting from his debut against Real Sociedad, as well as games in the FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, and the FA Super Cup.
Despite reaching this significant figure, Amad emphasised that it is merely a stepping stone. He has openly expressed his desire to leave a lasting legacy in Manchester:
I want to leave a legacy here so that people will say, 'We had this guy, he was incredible.' I don’t want to leave this club one day and have people say, 'Oh no, he didn’t put in the effort… he had talent, but he didn’t give everything.' I want to use the privilege of playing for Manchester United and give the club all that I can,
