Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe personally intervened in one of the club's summer transfers. This comes from a report by British outlet Daily Mail citing football agents.
One player representative revealed how the hierarchy intruded upon an already agreed deal.
We had an agreement with Jason Wilcox, and then Jim intervened and tried to change everything. In the end, he simply wrecked the deal.
Another agent noted that sporting director Jason Wilcox found himself in an incredibly tough spot, as the club is run by owners rather than the relevant managers. It’s worth mentioning that Wilcox also faced heavy criticism from Lisandro Martinez following the defeat to Atletico Madrid.
The club was reportedly keen on midfielder Elliot Anderson. However, Ratcliffe's tight budget made this transfer impossible, allowing the player to move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for a staggering £116 million.
In lieu of Anderson, the Red Devils secured Carlos Baleba for £70 million, Andre Santos for £50 million, and Youri Tielemans for £35 million.
