Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has voiced his concerns regarding the team's struggles this season, placing blame not on the players, but on manager Michael Carrick.
United sits 13th in the Premier League table, having garnered just four points from their first four matches. Their woes deepened with a loss to Manchester City in the EFL Cup, coupled with a missed opportunity after leading Brighton by two goals in their home fixture.
According to Saha:
The problem at Manchester United this season lies not with the players. Benjamin Sesko missed pre-season due to injury, and many players took time to settle after the World Cup. I think the transfer window wasn't the best for United, but Michael Carrick needs to adapt.
I don't see the necessary dynamism in the team. Manchester United needs a system and effective play combinations. The way they are playing right now is dangerous for Carrick, because it’s not about the players.
Saha further highlighted the sluggish pace of United's gameplay:
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and even Bruno Fernandes require a team that plays more freely and dynamically. Two holding midfielders are moving the ball too slowly across the pitch. There are no forward passes that create one-on-one situations.
In transitions, they are far too slow. It doesn’t matter who is up front – whether it’s Sesko, Cunha, or Mbeumo. If no one is taking risks or pushing the pace, the attack won’t develop. United creates chances, but there are very few clear-cut ones. Everything is just too slow.
