Liverpool and Manchester United are keeping tabs on Newcastle defender Malik Tchao, weighing up the possibility of a move for him in 2027. That said, there are no active talks regarding a transfer at this point.
According to reports from CaughtOffside, Liverpool is showing a more serious interest in the 25-year-old German. The Merseysiders have been following Tchao since March, contemplating bolstering their central defence amid uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk's future, whose contract expires in 2027.
Last summer, Liverpool opted against making an offer for Tchao, instead bringing in Jeremy Doku from Rennes and securing Ronald Araujo from Barcelona on a one-season loan. Nonetheless, both Doku and Giovanni Leoni remain young defenders in need of further development.
Manchester United is also in the mix, keeping an eye on Tchao. With decisions looming over the futures of Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Matthijs de Ligt next summer, strengthening their backline could become a priority in the transfer market.
However, Newcastle is currently disinterested in selling Tchao. The German joined from AC Milan in August 2025 and is regarded as a key player for the team, having a contract that runs until 2029. The estimated valuation for the defender is around £65–70 million.
