Nottingham Forest may get another opportunity to secure the signature of Fiorentina defender Dodo after an unsuccessful bid earlier this summer.
The summer transfer window saw Fiorentina willing to entertain offers for Dodo due to his contract situation. Nottingham Forest made a move, and at one point, the two parties were close to an agreement, but the Italian club demanded a hefty fee. Greek side Olympiacos also expressed interest in the defender, but their proposal was ultimately rejected.
However, the start of the new season has been challenging for Dodo. Following a heavy 0-4 defeat against Roma, he missed the subsequent two matches for Fiorentina.
Change may be on the horizon with a managerial shift at Fiorentina. Fabio Grosso has left the club, and Paolo Vanoli has returned. Vanoli was known to utilise Dodo frequently during the latter half of last season, which suggests the Brazilian could reclaim a significant role moving forward.
That said, the future for the defender remains uncertain. Fiorentina has yet to make a definitive decision, and with his contract winding down, the ambiguity only intensifies.
If Dodo does not sign a new deal, he will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January, paving the way for a potential move as a free agent in the summer of 2027. This scenario would allow Nottingham Forest to revisit their interest in the player without needing to pay a transfer fee to Fiorentina.
